1923 - 1957
Ganna (Luigi Ganna & Co.), founded by Luigi Ganna in 1923, manufactured numerous handsome and sporty machines in Varese, Italy. From 1923 well into the 1960s using engines in the 175-500 cc range from self-built, Blackburne and JAP prior to WWII, and then 49 cc to 250 cc two-strokes from Puch, Sachs and Minarelli. In 1936 they built their own 500cc four-valve overhead cam engine.
Although it was not until larger numbers were produced that Ganna became known for its well built and reliable products. Success in races contributed to the good for the brand. Although not greatly successful in competition, there is a record of a Ganna JAP finishing second in a race at the Circuito delle Prealpi Varesene, Varese, in July 1931. In the thirties there were several new models, including machines which used a light 175 cc JAP and Blackburne engines.
In 1933 built the first Ganna Python four valve engine and continued to modernize the models with the latest techniques. They continued building until 1942, when production was temporarily shut down due to the Second World War. After the war Ganna was forced to switch to light models with 125 - and 250-cc two-stroke Puch blocks.
In the fifties, the catalog expanded with several mopeds Puch, Minarelli, NSU and engines. Early sixties, they made only a 175 cc moped and light motorcycles. In the seventies, engine production stopped and Ganna went into bicycle production.
