Stola draws its origins from its founder Alfredo Stola in 1919.
It engaged in the construction of demonstration models for foundries and the automotive industry.
1930 Thanks to the ability of its founder, Stola became the best known and most highly reputed mock-up manufacturer in the sector. In Turin it was a virtually indispensable stage in the life of ambitious young model builders who wanted to improve their skills and found at Stola the ideal environment where to learn, test out their ability, with others for excellence. A customer of special importance was Lancia, and mock-ups produced for this company were so advanced that they continue to be valid today.
1940 At the time, Stola's activities were closely linked with the historical vicissitude of Italy. The company produced mock-ups of military trucks, special desert wheels, truck steering wheels, special vehicles.
1950 The Fifties were characterized by important commercial developments, such as a search for outlets in foreign markets, not only in Europe, but also in Japan and the U.S.A.
1960 The founder was succeeded by his three sons, two of whom took on responsibility for modeling operations, whilst the third took over the cast-iron foundry that had been added in the meantime as a complementary field of activity.
1970 The company continued to evolve, slowly but steadily, resulting in the adoption of increasingly modern materials and new machines, including 3D coordinate scriber, to simplify and speed up model marking and inspection operations.
Another event of great importance at the time was the foundation of the first tool manufacturing company, producing sheet steel dies, which was soon followed by a plant for the production of assembly tools.
1980 In the Eighties, Stola SPA, which had already acquired a solid repute on the international market, made another significant step forward by adopting CAM techniques and machinery for the construction of demonstrator models.
This paved the ground fox next stage in company growth, from the production of mock-ups and production tools, to a more complex range of activities, including vehicle design and prototype construction.
At this point, the services supplied to automotive manufacturers included design and construction of mock-ups, prototype construction and assembly tools, i.e., a complete and organically structured range encompassing all the activities leading to the creation and manufacture of a new vehicle.
1990 Production activities got underway at Melfi, where FIAT had established an innovative, brand new complex to produce the Punto: Stola and other partners set up a production unit for the assembly of body parts.
2000 Production activities were extended to Brazil, with a plant dedicated to the metal sheet parts stamping and to the assembly of complete bodies-in-white and sub-assemblies.
Immediately after the production's start, a section dedicated to the body engineering was added.
2001 French location through ESTIVAL (now Stola France) and sub-assembly through STAMPI 4.
2004 New shareholding group (RGZ majority shareholder).
2005 Opening of new market: STOLA ASIA.
