Gotland Ring
Gotland Ring is a racetrack and multi-functional motorsport facility on the Swedish island of Gotland, the most popular tourist resort in Sweden. In April 2004, Allt Om Resor (a travel magazine) voted the island the number-one island destination in the world.
Gotland Ring is designed for both international racing and corporate entertainment motor sport events. When the complex is completed, three separate circuits will allow simultaneous testing and corporate events on different parts of the complex. Gotland Ring will be the biggest such facility in Scandinavia, and will arguably be unrivalled in the Nordic region and North Eastern Europe.
Today (January 2006), the tarmac extends more than 3.2 kilometres on the northern loop (it will be FIA graded and ready for racing on by 2007). Also, steel barriers are in place on most of the circuit (remaining barriers will be installed 2007).
The other complete entity – the Southern Loop – has been under preconstruction development. It will be ready for tarmac installation during 2007.
The Northern Loop of Gotland Ring is booked for races on a preliminary basis for 2007 (pending FIA approval, after completion of the final 1.8 kilometres of barriers). Also, the circuit is already booked for B2B events, international product launches, and automotive testing for 2007-2008. Negotiations with several race series are in progress.
